Cloudflare gives brands a new way to measure AI visibility

Cloudflare is giving marketers a new way to track whether AI assistants cite, mention or recommend their websites as AI search becomes a bigger source of discovery.

For years, brands have had a simple way to measure their online visibility by seeing where they rank in search results. AI assistants are making that harder to track.

Cloudflare’s new AEO Visibility Dashboard, part of its Answer Engine Optimization Suite, gives brands a way to track how AI assistants cite, mention and rank them in responses to customer questions.

The launch comes as marketers face a new challenge. AI assistants don’t offer the same clear visibility into brand performance as traditional search rankings. A business may be cited, mentioned without a citation or left out of an AI-generated answer altogether. Cloudflare’s dashboard aims to show brands where they stand.

“Being discoverable used to mean ranking on a page. That’s not enough anymore,” Stephanie Cohen, Cloudflare’s chief strategy officer, said in the release. “The moments that matter, like when someone asks an AI for a recommendation and gets an answer back, are happening at scale, invisibly.”

The dashboard uses four metrics to measure a brand’s visibility in AI-generated answers. Citation Rate tracks whether AI platforms use a brand’s website as a source, while Mention Rate shows whether they name the brand without citing its site.

The distinction can help marketers understand whether they have an awareness or authority problem. A brand that is frequently mentioned but rarely cited, for example, may need to strengthen the authority of its content.

Prominence measures how prominently a brand appears in an AI response, while Share of Voice compares a company’s visibility with competitors across questions customers ask AI assistants.

The dashboard builds on Cloudflare’s existing Agent Readiness tool, which checks whether AI agents can access and use a website, including whether they can crawl it, navigate its sitemap and read its content in a structured format.

The new dashboard picks up from there and measures whether those AI systems actually recommend the site once they can access it.

The AEO Visibility Dashboard is available in early access. Businesses can request access through the Overview tab in their Cloudflare dashboard.
