Adobe brings Photoshop, Premiere and other creative tools into ChatGPT

Adobe’s new ChatGPT plugin puts Photoshop, Firefly, Premiere and dozens of other creative tools directly inside the AI chatbot.

Adobe is putting more of its creative software inside ChatGPT, a move that could make the chatbot a starting point for tasks that traditionally required opening a separate design or editing application.

The new Adobe plugin brings more than 70 tools from Adobe’s creative and productivity software into ChatGPT, including Photoshop, Firefly, Premiere, Acrobat, Lightroom, Illustrator and InDesign. Users can ask the chatbot to perform tasks such as editing photos, creating social media videos, designing marketing materials or turning data into formatted documents.

The integration reflects a broader shift in how software companies are approaching AI chatbots. Rather than requiring users to leave a conversation and open a specialized application, companies are increasingly integrating their tools directly into those conversations.

“More people are brainstorming, researching and solving problems in AI chatbot platforms than ever before,” said Forest Key, Adobe’s vice president of Firefly & Agentic AI. “We want Adobe’s pro-grade tools for creativity and productivity to be available wherever people work.”

The plugin can handle relatively involved creative workflows. A user could upload a collection of campaign photographs and describe a desired visual style, for example, or turn a long video into shorter clips formatted for platforms such as YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels. It can also transform spreadsheets and other datasets into catalogs, event badges and infographics.

Adobe is not presenting the plugin as a replacement for its standalone applications. Instead, the company sees ChatGPT as a place where users can begin a project before moving into software such as Photoshop when they need more precise editing.

“The Adobe plugin in ChatGPT isn’t a replacement for our flagship apps that creative professionals rely on every day,” Key said. He described the plugin as a way to bring Adobe’s tools into the conversation while reserving its traditional applications for work requiring greater creative control.

The partnership also expands Adobe’s presence beyond its own software ecosystem. Adobe says its tools have already been made available across several AI chatbot platforms, including ChatGPT, Claude and Copilot, with Slack and Gemini expected to follow later this month.

OpenAI product lead Vibhor Chhabra said the partnership is intended to give ChatGPT users access to specialized capabilities within the conversation itself.

For Adobe, the bigger question may be how people ultimately use those capabilities.

“People will use the Adobe plugin in ChatGPT in ways we haven’t imagined yet,” Key said.

The plugin is available globally through ChatGPT’s web and app versions. Users can begin without an Adobe account, while signing in provides access to additional generative features and Creative Cloud files.
