Google takes AI Mode ads global as Search growth slows

Google is expanding AI Mode advertising beyond the U.S. as Search revenue growth slows to 12%.

Google is taking advertising in AI Mode to international markets for the first time.

The expansion comes as Google Search revenue growth slowed in the third quarter. Search revenue rose 12% year over year, down from 17% in the second quarter.

Growth had reached 19% in the first quarter.

Google announced the international advertising expansion during its third-quarter earnings call, TechCrunch reported.

Alphabet separately reported $127.6 billion in quarterly revenue, up 25%, in its earnings release. Alphabet shares fell 8% after the results.

The source reports both developments but does not attribute the share decline specifically to slower Search advertising growth.

Google chief business officer Philipp Schindler said the company is expanding advertising across its artificial intelligence search products.

“We are now scaling high-quality ads within AI overviews in AI mode,” Schindler told investors.

He said the expansion includes taking Google’s “monetization footprint global for the first time.”

Ads in AI Mode will move into international markets. Google is also expanding multi-turn ads and other AI Mode advertising in the U.S.

Schindler said sponsored product listings in AI Mode produce click-through rates comparable with organic listings.

He also said Google research indicates users find the ads relevant. TechCrunch did not provide underlying figures for either claim.

The rollout builds on Google’s May announcement of AI-powered advertising formats.

Those products include conversational advertisements that respond to user questions. Google has also tested sponsored recommendations within AI-generated responses.

Search usage continues to grow even as revenue growth has slowed.

CEO Sundar Pichai said Search queries increased at their fastest year-over-year rate in five years. He did not disclose the growth percentage cited during the call.

Pichai said AI Mode queries are three times longer than traditional searches on average. About one in five AI Mode searches involves voice, images or documents.

Google also said it now processes more than 50 billion visual searches each month.

“Search is bringing the benefits of AI to more people than any other product in the world,” Pichai said.

Google Services, which includes Search and other businesses, generated $96.3 billion in revenue. That represented an 11% increase.

Google Cloud revenue rose 103% to $30.7 billion.

For publishers, the advertising expansion changes the mix of content appearing inside AI Mode.

Sponsored results will now appear alongside organic sources for more users outside the U.S. Google has not said which international markets will receive them first.

The source also does not address how the advertising expansion affects publisher referral traffic or publisher compensation.

Instead, the earnings call focuses on Google’s own advertising and search performance.

The immediate change is clear: Google is extending monetization deeper into AI Mode as more users adopt its AI search products.

What remains unclear is how those ads perform outside the U.S. and how quickly Google expands them across additional markets.
